As the war on terror ground on, researchers began to push beyond these things that it becomes sort of the orthodoxies around battlefield trauma and its treatment. Clinicians began to explore the idea that the meaning of a traumatic event mattered. And then, most interestingly, the notion of the traumatized perpetrator started to reemerge in the guise of what's called moral injury.
