In aden's telling, nefetiti was able to take power because of what was essentially an emergency situation. Acanata needed some one to insure that his religious changes were kept up after he died. Whether she would have eventually er continued with the new religion, or whether everyone would have been just glad to see the back of it is difficult to say.
