The Different Types of Synovial Sarcoma
Synovial sarcoma most commonly occurs in peri-articular locations. On physical exam, be sure to check for regional lymph adenopathy. Spindle cells are a fibrous type of cells with minimal cytoplasm and dark atypical nuclei. Epithelial cells are gland, nest, or cyst-like cells. Note that while lymph node metastasis is a poor prognostic sign, it is not as bad as lung metastasis.
