Tom Cruise, Chris Pratt and Scarlett Johansson are not enough for a star vehicle these days. Universal did an interesting thing with this movie by promoting it as being important. But when it becomes part of the marketing message, people don't go to see comedies because they're important. And that mixture is how you end up with bros.
