The Dixie and Marshall Missions
The Dixie mission ran July 22, 1944 to March 1, 1947. George Marshall's ill-fated mission ran concurrently with the Dixie mission from December 20, 1945 until January 1947. It was only natural that the party leader chosen to sparehead this effort to obtain American aid and support Bejo and Lai. Joe had more faith than Mao did as far as winning some sort of recognition from the Americans.
