Introduction
The story of Tutankhamun has been inviolably shaped by colonialism and the British Empire, says Professor Christina Riggs. She explains that far from being a household name when his tomb was discovered in 1922, he was virtually unknown to us today. In 2022 only a handful of specialists, archaeologists and Egyptologists would have known very little about him. He reigned around 1330s-1320s BC but nobody knew exactly who he was or how long he reigned.
