When the telegraph is becoming more and more a prevalent and important technology, lots of people who interest in spiritualism acually see spiritualism in the telegraph. So there's a kind of long tradition building across the nineteenth century of technology and supernatural beliefs feeding one another. And that's how a lot of people blend their interest in technology with an interest in witchcraft, or a fear of witchcraft. It's all very, it feels very much a technologized sense of what the supernatural is.
