The Sound Design of the Mount St. Helens Sequence
We've thought a lot about St. Helens and what it represents in their lives and in the story it's a major turning point for them. As far as setting up the eruption itself and how we handled that of course they missed the eruption so we don't have any of their own footage of that first big blast. It was one of those research rabbit holes we went down looking at okay well what documentation does exist of this eruption and that turned into this idea of the collective archive. Yeah that was really effective showing the different pieces of everyone collecting the explosions of Mount St.Helens.
