The Glass Mountain

The Glass Mountain tells the story of Malcolm Gaskill's great-uncle Ralph, a military policeman from Yorkshire who fought in North Africa and was captured in Libya in 1942.

Through archival research, Ralph's wartime diary, and retracing his steps across present-day Italy, Gaskill reconstructs his uncle's extraordinary journey from a Puglian prisoner-of-war camp through desperate escapes to assuming a new identity among Italian peasants and partisans in the Alps.
