Tommy is the fourth studio album by English rock band The Who, released on May 17, 1969.
It is a double album rock opera that tells the story of Tommy Walker, a boy who becomes deaf, dumb, and blind after witnessing a traumatic event, and his eventual journey to becoming a spiritual leader.
The album was composed primarily by guitarist Pete Townshend and was inspired by the teachings of Indian spiritual master Meher Baba.
Upon release, it was acclaimed by critics as The Who's breakthrough and has since become an influential work in rock music history, spawning live performances, orchestral versions, a 1975 film, and a 1992 Broadway musical.
